Couple Who Faked Mount Everest Photos Banned From Mountain For 10 Years

A couple have been slapped with a 10-year mountaineering ban after sharing a picture of them at the top of Mount Everest which was faked.

Dinesh and Tarakeshwari Rathod, who are both police officers, claimed to have climbed to the top of the world's tallest mountain earlier this year in May.

However the Indian couple were criticised by fellow climbers, who said their images were not real.

Nepal’s tourism department then carried out an investigation, and as a result banned the couple on Tuesday.

Tourism department chief Sudarshan Prasad Dhakal said:

"Our investigation shows that the couple faked their summit. We have imposed a 10-year ban against them from climbing any mountain in Nepal."Despite several attempts to get clarifications from them, they did not cooperate with us during the investigation. The two Sherpas that assisted them are also absconding.

Authorities said that they had managed to prove the images had been alerted to superimpose the couple onto the mountain.
