“I bet me and Ray J would be friends if we ain’t love the same bitch,” Mr. West raps on the Young Thug-assisted “Highlights.” “Yeah, he might’ve hit it first / Only problem is, I’m rich.”
While he may have outraged Swift fans, Ray J reportedly isn’t upset about his reference. According to TMZ, Yeezy called the R&B crooner before unleashing the track. He also apparently explained the lyrics to Ray’s sister Brandy during a face-to-face conversation. Their reps also discussed the song before its release.
Ray J hasn’t responded to the line officially, but his new Payso B-assisted track “Real Life Playa” is being billed as a reply. “Haters wanna know how I feel,” he sings over soul-inspired production. “Man, a ni**a feel good. And if I only had one wish, man, I wish a ni**a would.”
Ray J famously dated Kim Kardashian years before her marriage to West. In 2013, he released “I Hit It First,” a track that was seen as a jab at Kanye. ‘Ye clapped back that year on “Bound 2.” “Brandy’s little sister lame,” he famously rapped.
West’s The Life of Pablo is slated for release later today.
