US Singer, Chris Brown Could Face Up to 14 years Behind Bars for Assault with a Deadly Weapon

Chris Brown could face up to 14 years behind bars if he's found guilty of assault with a deadly weapon.

The star was arrested and charged yesterday  after a woman called 911 and claimed Brown had threatened her with a gun.

Legal expert, Troy Slaten, has spoken to E!News about the charges and stated that the maximum penalty for assault with a deadly weapon is four years in state prison, but this could be enhanced because of the alleged use of a gun in the crime.

He explained:

"Assault with a deadly weapon is a possible felony in California, and there is an significant enhancement for using a firearm in the commission of a crime.
"An enhancement means that, if convicted and found true, your prison sentence is increased or 'enhanced."
Slaten added: "So theoretically 14 years is the statutory max. But that would be very unlikely without a long rap sheet."
