A man was filmed deliberately slamming himself into a parked bus in attempt to fake an accident and win financial compensation.
Spectators said the shirtless man ran into the road as they were waiting at a bus stop during their daily commute.A video recording of his actions were posted on Weibo, where commenters suggested the man was a migrant worker hoping to be run over to set up an accident.
Known as 'peng ci' in China, many have been known to rip off unsuspecting drivers by running in to their cars.
Since evidence in such cases is hard to verify, peng ci has often been used to set up fake road accidents in the hope of claiming financial compensation from unsuspecting drivers.
But this time the incident was caught on camera and the bus driver, according to reports, did not move his vehicle.
The driver said:
'I had just stopped at the Seventh People's Hospital and was waiting for pedestrians to cross when the man suddenly ran into the bus by himself.'I asked him what was happening, but he didn't say anything.'
Two traffic officers approached the man at the end of the footage, threatening him with imprisonment if he persists.
He then stopped and was allowed to walk away.
